Baptisms
Baptism is a Sacrament of the Church, and so we approach Baptism differently from other "passages." Baptism always happens at a regular service of worship, with the congregation present. We believe Baptism, at whatever age it takes place, is the initiation ceremony into membership in the Church.
When infants are baptized at St. Andrew's, we expect that at least one parent will already be a "participating member" of St. Andrew's. It would be strange indeed to have children be members of the Church when their parents aren't!
When adults are baptized, we expect that they are participating in the Church already, and have taken a course of instruction about the meaning and purpose of Church membership. We offer these classes frequently, so there is never a long wait for those who wish to proceed with their own or their children's Baptism.
In The United Church of Canada, adults can become members of a congregation in one of three ways:
- by Baptism as an adult,
- by Renewal of Baptismal Faith (for adults who were baptized as infants),
- by Transfer from another congregation.
If you are interested in Baptism for your child or membership for yourself, please call the Church Office (259-4080) and we will help that happen. We welcome your inquiries.
