Colleen and her husband, David Moore, first became involved in the Orphanage in 2001 when they lived in Kenya and have continued to support it ever since with many private donations, including from the generous people at St. Andrew's. She will give a Power Point presentation as well as talking about Mama and the children. There will be time for questions. For information you may contact Joyce Moore: 255-7890

Is it Time to Green-Up St. Andrew’s?: Are you interested in being environmentally friendly? A new group is forming at St. Andrew’s to look at ways we can decrease our environmental footprints individually, as a church and within the community. Help us name this new group. Send your group name suggestions to greeningandy123@yahoo.ca or drop them in the “Green Box” in the Narthex. We are also interested in your green tips. Please send or drop them off. Come out and join us at our next meeting, Tuesday October 14, 7 p.m. at Lynda Waddington’s.

Green Tip of the Week: Here is an easy recipe for a non-toxic household cleaner - Mix ½ cup vinegar, 1/4 cup baking soda (or 2 tsp. borax) with 8 cups water in a spray bottle.

Fussers: Come to church on Sunday? Want to help but only have 15 minutes to spare? Then you could be one our fussers (Anglicans call them Altar Guild). The more fussers, the fewer Sundays each have to work. If this suits you, please contact the church office or Karen Decoux at Karen.decoux@shaw.ca (403-278-5829).

Calling all knitters! Our prayer shawl ministry has been very effective and most appreciated. We need more prayer shawls to keep the ministry going. Talk to Donna or Shannon for a pattern.

Healing Pathway Phase one Workshop will be held Oct. 3-5 at St. Andrew’s United Church in Lacombe, AB. The Book Club will meet on Thursday, August 28 at 10:30 a.m. We meet in the McKenzie Room and our discussion will centre on “Three Cups of Tea”, about Greg Mortenson’s projects in Pakistan and foreign aid in general. New members welcome.

St. Andrew’s Women’s Network - All women are invited to come and gather on Wednesday, September 10th at 7 p.m. in the Narthex. Our first get-together theme is “Bloom Where You Are Planted” with Rev. Linda Hunter as our presenter. If you wish, come dressed colourfully and bring a flower of any kind.

Jan Tollefson of Add Your Light Foundation will join us on Sunday, September 21. Jan will be accompanied by Jose Riva, a valued co-worker from the Dominican Republic to bring us an update on several aspects of the work and accomplishments of Add Your Light. This is Jose’s first visit to Canada to meet with supporters of their work in the DR. There will be a “Q&A” in the McKenzie Room following the service. All are welcome to bring a bag lunch and join with the members of our Church in Society Committee to learn more about their projects in the DR. Look for the Add Your Light newsletter in the Narthex.

Jubilee Mountain Hike #2 on Sat. Aug. 30th. Updated details on Home page under Featured News / Announcements.

Announcing the second fund raiser for the new grand piano! Purchase one of the 88 keys. You can purchase a key for at least $50. One key per household but feel free to donate more than the $50 if you wish. Certificates will be handed out to acknowledge your participation in this fund raiser for the piano. We will sell keys through the summer or until all 88 keys are sold.

Garage sales are for getting rid of the things that you don't use any more, and also for coming and buying other articles that you really need! Our next garage sale is Sat. Oct. 4th, so please keep it in mind during the summer months and start putting aside all your sale items. Let's make this one the biggest ever so that we can help the church do some needed renovations.
