Funerals and Memorial Services
Death always comes as an intruder into your world. Even when it is expected, death has a way of catching you off guard. You become very vulnerable. You are on unfamiliar ground. Stress is high. So is a desire to "do it right," to be appropriate and helpful, while threading your way through a veritable mine field of customs and expectations. All of this happens while you are contending with the pain of an immediate and profound loss.
Life and death and life again are at the heart of what the Church is about. When you are faced with the need to arrange for funeral or memorial services, talk to a minister early in the process of making decisions about that. Ministers know from experience how to be helpful, what gifts the Church can offer, and how to deploy the Church's resources for the sake of a helpful, caring and dignified service.
Although death is always an intruder, you are not. There are no requirements of membership or Church attendance to face as you seek to plan a funeral service. Your concerns for a beautiful and appropriate "rite of passage" are worth the best we have to offer.Funerals are a priority for our ministers, and with all of the Church's staff and facilities. Under most circumstances there is no charge for funeral services, although there is a fee for the organist and sometimes a caretaking fee. An ad hoc reception committee often provides a simple reception if you wish an opportunity to gather after the service is over. All these arrangements can be made with the ministers and the Church Office at (403)259-4080. St. Andrew's ministers officiate at funerals at St. Andrew's.
