POSITION PROFILE: Minister For Children and Family Ministries – ¼ Time
PURPOSE:
spiritual development for children, as part of the wider ministry staff team
nurture faith development of families within the congregation
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
to work collegially with the other members of the Ministry Team
to participate in regular monthly staff meetings
As the minister for spiritual and faith development for children and their families – 80%
to participate in regular meetings of the Children and Youth Committee.
to develop a rapport with the children of the congregation and their families.
to serve as the coordinator, and support the Sunday morning children’s ministry.
to develop the Workshop Rotation model for the Sunday morning children’s ministry.
to recruit, train, and support volunteers in the congregation to support the children’s ministry.
to facilitate the participation of children in worship.
to continue to implement and monitor the “Tender Trust” duty-of-care initiative as it relates to children.

QUALIFICATIONS:
meets the requirements for Designated Lay Ministry in the United Church as set out in The Manual (or is willing to undertake that certification process), including a current level 2 police records check.
is a caring professional with good ego strength, appropriate professional and personal boundaries, and is emotionally stable, secure and “self-differentiated”.
is willing and able to work in a collegial ministry team.
is theologically progressive and is also non-judgmental about other theological positions.
is flexible, creative, and willing to take risks.
is knowledgeable about current resources, writing, and research in children’s spiritual and faith development.
has demonstrated an ability to develop and carry out programs appropriate to the needs of children and their families.

has demonstrated the ability and has the experience necessary to lead and support children in their spiritual and faith development.
has a demonstrated ability to relate to children.
has proven communication skills in both oral and written forms.
TERMS:
The remuneration, terms and conditions of the Minister for Children and Family Ministries position will be consistent with the guidelines of the United Church of Canada. Terms of the position are included below and will be finalized upon completion of the search process:
The terms of the position is 1/4 of the salary and benefits, based on increment
category range from A to C.
Housing: ¼ of the St. Andrew’s United Church housing allowance – ¼ x $22,000
beginning July, 2008
Books and education allowance: ¼ x $1200
One month vacation annually
Three weeks study leave annually a consistent with the going rate for Calgary Presbytery.
Appropriate office space, equipment and adequate secretarial assistance will be provided.
Salary, allowances, and benefits increases are made in consultation with the Ministry and Personnel Committee and in conjunction with the Council.
POSITION PROFILE: Minister For Seniors’ Ministries and Pastoral Care – ¼ Time
PURPOSE:
to foster Christian care-giving within the congregation, as part of the wider ministry staff team
to focus on the need for spiritual support of seniors in the congregation.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As part of the ministry team at St. Andrew’s – 20%
work collegially with other members of the ministry team
participate in regular monthly staff meetings
participate in the weekly pastoral care consultation with the Ministry Team.
As the Minister for pastoral care focusing on seniors’ ministries –80 %
participate in regular meetings of the Pastoral Care Committee (which we hope to redevelop into a ministry group called the Ministry of Caring). This minister will work with that group to develop a more vigorous pastoral care ministry within the congregation.
develop, train and lead a committed group of laypeople to become a pastoral care team for seniors’ ministry.
identify and keep track of people who become shut-in or move to retirement homes or long-term care facilities.
develop and nurture small group ministries among seniors in which they naturally extend care to each other.
be a liaison with existing pastoral care groupings such as Healing Touch and the St. Andrew’s Prayer Chain.
support St. Andrew's participation in providing occasional services at long-term care facilities in our geographic area.
continue to implement and monitor the “Tender Trust” duty-of-care initiative as it relates to seniors.
